Common Sense

This page is just my two cents ...my contribution to society (but most of it is just common sense, people!)

When To Use Apostrophe's
If you think the apostrophe I just used is correct, then read on. Apostrophes are used wrongly everywhere. Everywhere! It's pretty annoying. There is a difference between plural and possessive. Here is a great article on a foundation formed to combat this problem.

Ordering Pizza For Delivery
This task would seem simple enough, but you'd be surprised how many people can't do it well. Here are some tips:

  1. Know what you want before you pick up the phone to dial.
And mention if you have a coupon.
  2. Go turn on your light if it is dark out or if it will be dark out when the poor delivery guy shows up.
If your place is hard to find or you forgot to put the number on your house where it can be seen by that light you just turned on, then call them back and give them some good directions. If you live in an apartment that seems to have no logical entrance, tell them where the secret door is to get in.
  3. Tip well.
Give at least two bucks. I don't care if you only ordered breadsticks, that should be the minimum. He only gets like $0.50 for taking his car to your house (that he could or could not find - is your light on yet?). If that seems like too much, then get off your butt and go get your own pizza.

Then add $1 per box for every box over two (at the least). A nice tip here in the Midwest is anything above $4. You will put a smile on his face with a nice tip like that. Add another buck if you still didn't turn your light on.

Get Up to Highway Speed When Using An On Ramp
It doesn't seem that hard, right? The gracious civil engineers who design highways make these long things called "ramps" which help you get up to the speed on the highway and then help you slow down when getting off.

So what's up with those people who can only seem to get up to 40 MPH on that long ramp? It's so dangerous entering the highway below the speed limit. And nowadays it seems you have to be at least 5 or 10 over the speed limit to be with everyone else driving.

Hopefully natural selection will take care of these drivers for us. It's really just a matter of time.
