The trip up North to Indianhead Ski Resort was great. Like I said, 26" of new snow - wow. The first day I skiied. There were lots of groomed trails, but also some with powder. It was my first experience with powder and I found out it's a lot of work to move downward.
The second day, I decided to learn how to snowboard. There were no instructors available, so I taught myself. I stayed in the practice area and got a good feel for it. I got to meet a few people and some helped me out and gave me some good tips. There was a LOT of falling involved and I was WAY sore that night. Thank God for the hot tub there!
The third day, we woke up and had to decide if we were to head back
home or not - like we were supposed to. The threatening snow to the
Madison area kept us there for another day of glorious skiing. I was
sore still, so I ran to the hot tub again to refresh, then decided to
do snowboarding again since there would be an instructor that day and
to keep up the momentum.
I took an hour lesson with Brian, I think his name was. He was 17. What
am I? 34? Anyway, he gave me some really good tips like keeping my
weight forward, how to toe turn and heel turn, and how to turn my head
to where I want to go, which actually makes really good sense since you
want to look before you leap.
Karl and I trekked back on Friday just as all the Illinoians (?) were
beginngin to invade. My favorite comment was from a guy from Chicago I
met that said he was amazed how fast he can get up there since they
raised the speed limit in Wisconsin to 80. That pretty much says it all
(the speed limit is 65, man).
I'm glad we got to stay another day and I can't wait to ski and
snowboard more next year. It looks like I'll be an instrucctor at
Cascade if everything works out.
Later!
