Voting in Wisconsin

I went and voted yesterday (one of the few, it seems). This is the second time this year. Both times I have not had to provide identification. I just walk in, say my last name, first name and then my address. They give me a slip, I give it to someone else and I go vote.

DUH!

As long as I knew someone else's name and address in a ward, I could have voted all over the city, many times. I didn't but there are those out there who would. (Cough... Progressive Dane).

Governor Doyle doesn't seem to want to sign legislation to make showing ID the law for voting. Why? Let's see, identity theft is a huge issue and there are plenty of laws about that, right? I have to show my ID at bars, the bank and other places - but no, not to vote. That tells you where voting ranks in the eyes of our elected officials.

  • You can't publish a picture of a minor without parental consent.
  • Kids have to be in car seats in the car by law.
  • You need to show ID when you buy cigarettes and beer.
There are hundreds of laws out there to "protect" us. So voting isn't worth protecting then is what they're saying.

Isn't the whole reason we started this country was to be able to vote and do it fairly? Did the Governor not study history at all? Did he flunk history class?

The reason thousands died against England to gain our freedom doesn't mean anything here. Their blood is watered down. This is by the same people (Democrats) that oppose the war in Iraq - where thousands die - they're all upset about that. Get your story straight, please. Which American blood matters to you? Just so we know - tell us, please. Oh, that's right, we have to treat everyone fairly and be "Politically Correct". Wait... that doesn't match up. If it did, then... oh, nevermind - I'm beating a dead horse.

(You know, I wouldn't mind the Democrats so much if they were just consistent. If they were consistent on where they stand, I'd totally respect them. They move around though. They move with how the wind blows on any given day. That's the only strategy they have to keep fighting. It's weak. It won't last. People can spot fakes.)

Voting isn't sacred... and they wonder why there's low turnout.

Ok, so it seems the only other reason then to not have to show an ID when you vote is so that it's easy to cheat. What other reason could there be? Someone tell me. And we keep these kinds of people in office why? People vote for them why? They must agree with that and want to cheat, too. Weird. I'm glad I'm not one of them.
