I wrote here earlier about how in California there's legislation going through about the government controlling thermostats (all in the name of "being green"). I had to change my pants when I heard that one.

The smoking ban here in Madison (and maybe statewide) is also just as scary. Although I like going into a place and not being poisoned by smoke, I do not condone the government dictating what should be done in private businesses on non-government, private property. The market should work these things out - not the government. If people don't like smoky bars, they shouldn't go to them.

This is a very slippery slope, people, that leads to Socialism and Marxism. Yeah, you may not be affected by things now, but sooner or later it'll get you - no doubt. The government will come in and control something of yours and it'll be too late then. At that point, too many laws like this will have already gone through and we'll be sliding down that slope. Even our elected officials (who ARE the government, mostly) will later wish they never started this movement. We need to keep a very close eye on these things and then write emails and make calls.
