All you hear about is doom and gloom in the media about the economy. They love to throw the word "recession" around to get people's attention. That's exactly what they want. Creating alarmist news stories keeps the news media going. It keeps people listening or reading what they write, which produces ad dollars. You'd like to think that the news media is providing a useful service to everyone, but it's really just a business. I also kind of think of the news media as that guy or girl at a party that just keeps saying stuff in order to get more attention. Yeah, that's what they're like. Loud, obnoxious and in the corner alone or with others like them.
So if they'd just shut up about the economy, people wouldn't be holding onto their money so tightly and things would improve a little more. The stock market had a good week and I've heard that's an indicator of how the consumer market is heading. So things will improve. It'll take a little bit for people to loosen their pocketbooks and get more money moving, but it'll happen. One thing you can be sure of is if we had this exact economy with a Democrat in the White House, we wouldn't be hearing so much about it. We're in a hot election season, so if the news media ("drive-by media") can pin any bad news on Republicans, they will. The sad part is, we have a Democratic Congress that isn't doing squat. Their approval rating is worse than the President's. Nancy Pilosi's a failure and won't support Hillary because she's another woman of power and you can't have two of those (sorry I got off topic a little). I've also heard that the housing market in Wisconsin hasn't really moved. Houses haven't really lost big value. Sure, housing in California has tanked and since it's California, it matters more, right? Isn't that the rule? So, I think we should watch our spending (like we always should), but don't hold back too much. Businesses are trying to increase sales and are throwing some pretty good deals out there that we haven't seen in a while. I say take advantage of them now. -T
