Comparing Economic Plans

Well, Democratic voters seem to largely not care too much about the numerous shady characters that Barack Obama seems to have hung around with. I think that's a shame and that it's like we have forgotten about 9/11 but people seem to be able to forgive him and think that these people who have been in his life for 20 or more years didn't have any influence on him whatsoever. The forgiveness is great, of course, but pretending that having relationships with a group of people for so long has no affect on someone is really astonishing and naive.

That aside, the big issue is the economy. I'm hearing of people losing jobs and that's not good. I thank God that I've got a good job and am thankful that God provides for me. Without that kind of faith and trust, I'd be really scared, too.

What really scares me with just a few weeks before the election is that Obama is making his economic plan sound really good. He's throwing around this figure that 95% of all Americans will pay less taxes. Well, that's deceiving since something like 35% of Americans don't pay any taxes at all. That's good spin, but in this case it's also a lie. He's also not renewing all of Bush's tax cuts. Beyond that, he's raising taxes other places like in business. If you buy things from businesses (and we all do), then those tax increases get passed on to us - so you can't say that we're all getting tax cuts as it's just not true. He's just making things sound good to get elected - plain and simple.

Don't take my word for it. Read it for yourself. Here are some good articles...

The Obama and McCain Tax Plans: How Do They Compare?

Senator McCain will make the Bush tax cuts permanent, with the exception of the estate tax. McCain credited the Bush tax cuts with helping the economy recover after the 2001 recession.

Senator Obama, on the other hand, will extend the Bush tax cuts only for those taxpayers who earn less than $250,000 a year—he has deemed the rest of the people "rich." Senator Obama will also enact new tax increases on these rich individuals as well as a series of targeted tax credits for lower-income individuals. Senator Obama believes that the current tax system is not progressive enough and that higher taxes on the rich should be used to give money to low-income individuals or those who do not work at all...

Basically, Obama's plan is to "spread the wealth" as he puts is. It's Socialistic in nature. It kills incentive and what this country needs right now is incentive. Being a businessman myself, I've learned that you need capital (money) to make things happen - to hire people, to expand business and so forth. If businesses are being taxed heavily and the people making good money have no incentive to make more and their money is going into the hands of people who obvisouly don't have the skills to manage money well, then how does that help a broken economy?

I've heard some good analogies of this socialistic "spread the wealth" idea:

  • You eat right, exercise, cut out fatty foods and take care of yourself. You show up at the government run medical facility for a check up. The guy in the waiting room next to you who hasn't taken care of himself, doesn't exercise and eats poorly needs a kidney. You have to give up a kidney for him (this is in no way a cut on kidney donors, just an example I heard).
  • A kid studies hard for an exam and gets an A. There's another kid in class that didn't study, played video games instead and got a D. The kid with the A has to give points to the kid with the D to be fair and spread the wealth and they both get a C.
  • You work hard and get a nice house and retirement fund set up. The family on the other side of town doesn't have that. The father has a drug habit, the kids are not punished when the police have to bring them home all the time and they keep having more kids to get more welfare money. The family that works hard gets their money taken away from them so that the disfunctional family can use it and support their habits.

It's great to help people in need. I love doing that. But when it becomes something the people in need expect and there's no real help going on to get them out of their situation, then it's a waste and only adds fuel to the fire.

This economy is broke. We know that. Raising taxes won't help. Punishing the real producers of this economy makes things tons worse. That's just basic economics.

It also seems very likely that the Democrats are to blame for this financial mess. Barney Frank encouraged this type of lending. ACORN made sure that banks lended to people who should not have had home loans. If there was a Republican to blame for this, you can be sure that they would have been in the hot seat in the middle of a heated investigation at least 4 weeks ago, but there is nobody there because there's not one to pin this on.

I know Obama really wants to help the nation and the economy. I don't doubt that. He just doesn't have the experience to put the right plan in place. He's just a slick guy that says what sounds like. Below that polished surface, there's nothing. He hasn't really done anything in his career. We're interviewing people for President right now - or at least I know I am. Someone with that little experience and these Socialistic plans raises red flags for me. Let's get a guy in there that has more experience, has seen more of the world and is on a mission to get things done right.

Update:

I was thinking of buying the domain ObamaSpreadTheWealth.com but someone else already did. They did a nice job, too, with a little blog.

Obama had trouble sealing the deal with Hillary, he's outspending McCain 3 to 1 and still only a few points ahead. His campaign has had to put out ads to rebut the William Ayers thing - so it seems like that has mattered.

Obama messed up when he had to talk and answer to a real, average American. That's pretty scary. No wonder Obama avoided the town hall meetings - he would have sucked at them, talking face to face with... uh... a... um... ah, real... um... ah, Americans.

Update:

The story isn't Joe the Plumber (as the media is trying to destroy this poor guy) it's about what Obama said to Joe and how Obama and the media are picking on ordinary Americans. Not a good move, but it works for me!

Did Barack "Spread the Wealth" Obama Just Blow the Election?

No. Really. You're kidding me. Barack Obama actually told that Joe the Plumber guy that he wants to "spread the wealth around." What, did Obama just get done reading the Wikipedia entry on Huey "Share the Wealth" Long or something? Was he somehow channeling that left-wing populist from the Depression? Talk about playing into the most extreme stereotype of your party, that it is infested with socialists.

Ha!
