Well, my RSX is a 2002 and it still had the factory stereo in it. It was a nice one, actually - not really any complaints. It was just time to upgrade and I'm glad I did. I did some research and found a great car stereo, the Sony CDX-GT700HD.
The "HD" part of that model number means it has an AM/FM HD tuner built in. Yeah, most models of new stereos were "HD Capable" or "HD Ready" but this one actually has the tuner built in and I'm loving it. It also has a remote, sounds great (52 watts), iTunes tagging, iPod (iPhone) input, aux input and more. How the HD radio works is it tunes in a channel in analog and if there's an HD/digital signal, then it switches to that. Once it does that, you can see if there are any additional HD channels. I've found a few so far. Getting AM radio in HD is weird to me but I like it - it sounds great.
I got a great deal on it at Crutchfield after I found a $20 coupon code. Crutchfield also includes the wiring harness and dash adapter, which is worth another $45 or so. I then got in installed at Best Buy.
The Best Buy install was ok but weird. I took it to Best Buy (#59) East Towne in Madison, WI. It was only like $50 and I had a $15 Reward Zone gift certificate, so it was pretty cheap. I got there and the guy checked in my car by checking everything electrical. I didn't expect that but I suppose they have to do that so that people can't come back later and say something was messed up. Well, something did get messed up on my car by taking it to Best Buy. For the life of me, I really cannot figure out why this would happen but I immediately noticed (the next time I used my car at night) that the headlights were aimed too high. What? Yeah, I noticed it right away and was wondering about it and then lots of cars were flashing their brights at me as if I had mine on.
I just spent at least an hour trying to re-aim them tonight. This sucks because I had them professionally aimed just about 3 months ago. Why in the world would the Best Buy tech take the time to mess with re-aiming my headlights. And it's not like it can be done too easily. For the driver's side one, you have to remove the spout for the windshield washer fluid to get at the adjustment knob, which you need a screwdriver for (and a small hand). I just don't get why they did this - especially after it seemed like they really cared about not messing something up. Very strange.
So the radio is cool but I don't think I'd have Best Buy install my stereo again.
