Ok, all you IT companies. All you guys sitting there using Windows to manage networks. Why is it so hard for you all to do things correctly?
We have several clients who cannot see their own web site from their network. Duh! Hello? DNS?? The network they are on thinks that it's hosting the web site. It's not, ok? Fix it, please. Go into your point and click world. Check your checkboxes. Select the right pulldown menus and then maybe finally figure out that it's going to take a little more than that to get the job done. You might have to use the "command line"! Oh no, not that! It's so scary!
I know very little about networking and have never claimed to be an expert. It's not my cup of tea. But please, if you know less than I do, do not go out there and call yourself an IT company and claim to be experts. It just creates more confusion and makes us web developers look bad since clients think we control that kind of thing. If I had access to fix it, I would – just so that the web site works right.
And then if we happen to give you some instructions in efforts to try to help you out with something you should already know how to do, then please do everything that we ask, not just parts of it, ok?
And people wonder why jobs go to India? There are literally millions of people competing for jobs there, so their grades and knowledge have to be at the top. It's a matter of survival, actually. The cream rises to the top, baby.
